I have been linking to Pitchfork because that's the site I actually find most new music on. They usually under-rate CD's that I enjoy, like this one. I think pitchfork is racist against black people like Aesop Rock.

I didn't mean to say I had a problem with pitchfork, I just am more curious to know what you think about it. I just find they can be a little too critical, I think they do it to keep themselves in a job.

Pitchfork has some talents and they put them to work (5 album reviews per DAY + news and shit). They can't just give everything 9's and 10's, like I would probably do. Basically, I just download all the CD's they review, and don't even look at the rating any more. I really don't believe in trying to put specific numeric ratings on things like movies and music. It's good... or it's bad!

I haven't listened to a new album that I really really liked in a long time. I don't know if I'm getting pickier, if I just haven't heard the right shit, or what, but it's getting frustrating. All the stuff I was starting to like in high school, like def jux for example, is all feelin' really mainstream to me these days. That's cool and all, they spent plenty of time underground, they deserve their time in the lime-light, but when their nouveau-riche-ness seeps into the production value and the lyrics, I am bothered. I'll have to give this a listen.

I am impossible to impress much with lyrics. The only ones that really impress me are ones that can actually make me laugh while still making quality music, such as Ween, Mr. Bungle, and few others. Most lyrics, I cannot understand and do not bother looking up. If you wanted me to hear them, you'd fucking annunciate your words. Aesop is pretty good at annunciating, but his lyrics are pretty random. It's thought-provoking, and that's good enough for me to go with BAD ASS instrumentals. This CD is pretty upbeat. I will be adding more Aesop soon, in the form of his Nike Original Run stuff. I don't have an MP3 player but when I do, I'll try running to that, and probably die of a heart attack.

Fucking rocks the house, most anything Mike Patton has been involved with is, at the very least, unique. But yeah, with Aesop, it's never been as much about WHAT it is he's saying but how he says it and what beats he says it over. I guess I was thinkin' more back to old school def jux, and some of the other mc's on there can have some pretty meaningful lyrics, like Mr. Lif and Blueprint (even though he's not technically def jux, he seems to be pretty good friends with all of those guys). But yeah, bottom line, I am a picky bastard as well, but what're you gonna do? I'd rather be picky and miss out on some stuff than bombard myself with shit to find the good stuff in between, c'est la vie.
Mucho Listenings

Pretty good though?
